If you bought it from an Apple Store the receipt might have been delivered electronically. Otherwise a harsh lesson on the importance of making an effort to store receipts for valuable items where you know you can lay your hands on them later. I also tend to keep packaging for some time in case a faulty item needs to be returned while still in warranty.

My experience with Apple's customer service has always been excellent. I am pretty confident that if you bought your item within 30 days that Apple will have a copy of the transaction, especially if you used a credit card or debit card. It is definitely worth a call, or chat, with customer support.

I believe that Apple will do whatever they can to make you a happy customer. They have always been very helpful and accommodating with me. 🙂

I don't know which store you got it from, but most places require a receipt in order to process an exchange or a refund. You can always call the store and ask.

Apple's return period for a refund is 14 days.
